It was quiet yesterday too. We were home. When my daughter got to the hospital and was examined, they found the baby had turned himself upside down. She would need to have a Cesarean. This would be the first C-section in our family. I tried to encourage her that she was going to be fine and that everything was ok. I hoped my concern was not showing. Not only was she experiencing labor pain for the first time in her life, she just found out that she was going to have an operation very quickly.

I waited in the waiting room and paced the floor. Interestingly, I was actually on the outside of locked doors that opened into the surgical area for Cesareans. I was able to barely see through a crack in the doors. I watched and watched until I saw her husband appear in his hospital garb. He waved at me and then disappeared into a doorway. I pressed my ear up to that crack and waited to hear a baby cry. What seemed like an eternity later, I heard a cry.

I was full of emotion and turned to our family who was waiting with me and said, "he's here!"

Anthony Nathaniel Gonzales entered the world a healthy baby boy and his Mommy was indeed going to be fine.Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03218962189691531211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3055051874277950743.post-87705832674554473342010-05-19T15:26:00.000-07:002010-05-28T18:35:48.580-07:00How I KnewReminded my husband that it was three years ago today that he was in the ER getting a sliver of metal out of his eye. He wondered how in the world I could remember the exact date ...

...BECAUSE it happened on the same day that our precious grandson, Carlos, was born! I'll never forget that day. I had been at the hospital since the night before. I was there to help Alyssa through labor and welcome her incredibly adorable baby.

After sufficient time oooing and aaahhhing over my grandson and making sure Alyssa was doing well, I headed home ...totally exhausted.

I sat down on the couch at home and sighed a big sigh (at approximately 9:00 PM) ... just before Bob told me I needed to take him to the hospital because whatever was in his eye was killing him.

Off we went to the ER waiting room. A long night, and it was May 20th by the time we got home, but the hospital records state that he was treated on May 19. How could I EVER forget that date?Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03218962189691531211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3055051874277950743.post-32034302223511313052010-05-09T22:30:00.000-07:002010-06-08T00:55:27.267-07:00Mother's DayLast year for Mother's Day we had a brunch for the "mothers" in our family. My adult daughters, who are all mothers, did the cooking for my mother and I. We enjoyed good food and good fellowship. We "older mothers" gave the "younger mothers" some beginning supplies to scrapbook. My mother and I enjoy the hobby and try to get together to do it as often as we can. We wanted to share our passion with them. It was a wonderful day.

This year, we did something else. We ladies, all ages this time, and some of our little boys caravaned around town and went shopping together. We stopped along the way and ate lunch and drank coffee (the good cold kind : )

The kids were amazing! We had as much fun having them WITH us this year, as we did having a day WITHOUT them last year. Only a mom would understand.Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03218962189691531211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3055051874277950743.post-37665456476686892982010-04-30T17:17:00.000-07:002010-05-28T18:23:10.739-07:00Three Quarters of a Century OldDad turned 75 today.

He's an amazing man, not just because he is my Daddy. He started off as a tiny little premature baby. He was the first one in his large family to leave the reservation he was born on, to head off to college.

I plan to sit with him and get his stories recorded. He has done unbelievable things.Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03218962189691531211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3055051874277950743.post-19555904824473126192010-04-25T15:23:00.000-07:002010-05-28T18:26:07.821-07:00Two Peas In a PodMy precious granddaughter, Isabele, turns 5 today! She is my namesake and every bit as feisty as I was at that age (according to my mom). Is that why we understand each other so well?Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03218962189691531211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3055051874277950743.post-74102247056049411492010-04-08T11:00:00.000-07:002010-04-20T03:24:40.986-07:00April 8, 2010Today my daughter, Alyssa, turns 24. She was just toddling around the house in her diaper with a big smile! I can still see her mixing up concoctions in the kitchen, assisted by her brother. Or appearing from nowhere (where she had been a little TOO QUIET) with a section of her hair missing. She loved to snuggle up next to you on the couch and had the funniest way of sleeping with one leg bent -- sticking up in the air and the other one crossed at the knee. I can almost hear the tiny little whistle coming from her nose as she slept.

Alyssa is creative and is naturally gifted at working with hair. She is a hard working single mom with a precious son. She is the apple of my eye.Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03218962189691531211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3055051874277950743.post-87116720331515914052010-03-11T21:30:00.000-08:002010-03-13T00:48:46.393-08:00work in this economyBob is starting to look at job listings. Five years ago she was born. Four years ago she started kindergarten. Three years ago she graduated from high school. Two years ago she was getting married and a week ago she was pregnant ...... at least in my mind.

Today she is an incredible woman. She's a single, hardworking mother of three precious children. Nicole is working with and impacting other children as well as her own. She is my pride and joy.Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03218962189691531211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3055051874277950743.post-25847553300476083182010-01-10T23:56:00.001-08:002010-01-11T00:27:00.243-08:00Conquering The BeastFirst of all, I had to get up and into the truck. Not an easy feat for this little Native American woman. I am able to get in on the passenger side and of course trying to get myself up and in on the driver's side was backward and the complete opposite. My legs don't do opposite.

I was determined to get myself up there. This was all about me proving that I COULD drive the Beast, I would not be defeated before I even started! Eventually I pulled and crawled and drug myself up and over the seat (not a pretty sight, quite humbling actually).

After instructing me on how to start the ignition (and there is a trick to doing it), we were off. First thing I noticed was that the dashboard was very high or else I was sitting very low in the seat. I asked Bob if I looked short in the driver's seat. He asked me if I could see over the steering wheel. Ha ha

The front end needs some work so the steering wheel is not straight. Your hands turn to the left about a quarter of a turn. As you drive, you've got to keep correcting the steering wheel because it pulls to one side and then the other. This reminded me of trying to play that Driving Across the US video game. I can never keep my car on the road in that game. Fortunatley there were no deer or other wildlife on the side of the road this day.

Next I was told that the we are actually going 5 miles faster than the speedometer says we are, because of the big tires. Then Bob asked me what the mileage was on the trip meter. Was he serious? I could not even see the trip meter and when I finally located it I realized that I couldn't read those little numbers unless I took off my single vision glasses. I told him not to talk to me for awhile because I was concentrating on keeping us on our side of the white line and watching the speedometer with the stress of a brand new driver.

I could not judge the width of the right side of the vehicle and was surprised that I was not going up over curbs when I had to turn right.

A car came out of a side street and pulled into the road instead of staying at the stop sign just as we came upon it. I slammed on the brakes, locking them up, as Bob yelled at the driver. I didn't have time to check my mirrors or even think of honking the horn. Fortunately we were not hit from behind.

Not too long after this, a car in front of me swerved into the next lane just in time for my lights to shine on approximately 4 feet of a palm tree laying across my lane. We barely missed running over it.Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03218962189691531211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3055051874277950743.post-51074074413008962002010-01-09T23:30:00.000-08:002010-01-10T00:22:25.684-08:00The Beast, As We Lovingly Call ItToday Bob said I was going to drive the truck.

The truck is his pride and joy ... or so it was a few years ago, but that's another story. The truck is 4 wheel drive and lifted with big tires. When we first got the truck Bob offered me a little wooden step to climb up into the truck. Somewhere down the road he did away with the littel wooden step. Maybe he got teased about having it in the back of his BIG bad truck... but that's another story too.

We were talking today and it came up in our conversation that I had never driven the truck. As a matter of fact I didn't have keys to the truck and my name isn't on the title ... but alas, that is another story.

Bob said that there's a good reason why he doesn't want me to drive it (yes! he admitted it!) He said it was hard to drive. I told him that he could teach me how to drive it. And that's basically how it came about that TODAY was the day.Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03218962189691531211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3055051874277950743.post-3897682967243961312009-12-05T06:10:00.000-08:002009-12-05T06:16:42.372-08:00SpotThis weekend Julianne is babysitting a goldfish. She's concerned that the fish will not last through the weekend. I wasn't too worried ...if anything happened we could easily replace it! Until I looked to see why the fish's name is SPOT. It has a little black spot on one of its fins. Would it be easy to find another one with the same spot in the same location? I don't know!! Come on Spot, we're pulling for you. Don't let your new surroundings depress you into .... into not eating or whatever happens to goldfish before you find them floating on the top of the water.Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03218962189691531211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3055051874277950743.post-83055152238612590492009-12-01T03:36:00.000-08:002009-12-05T06:47:41.780-08:00Our PetsWe have a dog. She's old now. She's white and sheds alot. We kept the name she had when we got her, Taffy. Everyone who sees her is amazed and says that she looks like she's smiling (and even laughing at times). She's a mutt. She has a medium sized body and small (not short) but small legs and a small head. I think her head looks like the seat on a ten speed bike.

We had two rabbits, Deione and Fudge. Fudge had a baby once. We only saw it one time. They were living in our backyard. Fudge had gone under our shed to have her baby (we didn't even know she was expecting). We didn't know she was a she. Julianne was outside playing and saw a very small rabbit running around. She yelled. We ran out and got to see the little baby rabbit run back under the shed. Deione outlived Fudge. In the end our dog got ahold of Deione and that was ... well, that was the end of Deione.Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03218962189691531211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3055051874277950743.post-36432554055642984122009-11-28T16:30:00.000-08:002009-12-05T06:29:02.059-08:00Advent BrunchToday we had our second annual Advent Brunch. My mom and I host it for all the gals and the kids in our family. We serve up a scrumptious meal, have an advent devotion and then do some projects with the kiddos.

This year the projects were: making Christmas cards (to hand out when we go caroling), painting ornaments for their trees, and frosting & decorating a gingerbread man to eat (it's really a sugar cookie man).

We were amazed to see how enthusiastic the kids were about making the cards; even the boys! Magnificient works of art!

Right before the moms and kids leave we pass out an advent calendar and a container full of goodies for them to take home. The moms let their kids pick out something each day after they open a door on the advent calendar.

This was the second annual brunch, but I had to miss the first one! I was sick.Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03218962189691531211noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3055051874277950743.post-50579465354369061702009-10-06T17:16:00.001-07:002009-10-06T17:20:23.495-07:00All good things come from the LORDYesterday in Julianne's Musical Theater class, her teacher asked her to be her personal assistant. I'll try again later this morning.

Bob isn't feeling well. Started feeling ill Saturday night. He stayed home from church yesterday, but he's getting ready for work today. He doesn't have benefits at his job. No sick pay. Hope it's not the flu. He said he just feels "blah."

Julianne has pneumonia. She finished the antibiotic. She wanted to wear a dress from that time period.

Unfortunately, I don't sew. Fortunately she is in a drama group that allows their members to borrow costumes!!

Unfortunately we had to look through racks and racks of dresses (not marked with sizes). Fortunately the costumes are divided by eras and themes.

We were down in that basement for at least 90 minutes. He is awesome at what he does, if I do say so myself. He currently works for a company that remodels Subway sandwich shops. It is in the franchise contract that they must remodel every 7 years. Since going to work for this company he does just about everything.

I have been fortuante to not have to work for the last 16 years. There was a time where I founded a non-profit organization (with two friends). We organized and held the largest used curriculum and book fair in the state of Arizona for 10 years. We also self published a monthly newsletter in which I wrote a column about my life as a homeschooling mom. I was a speaker at workshops around the valley. The name of the organization was "The Salt Seller" and we ministered to the homeschool community in Arizona.

Prior jobs for me include: banking, Tupperware dealer and manager, childcare worker, phone solicitor, US Census and my very first one ... He works part time and we see him in short snippets here and there. If I'm up in the middle of the night I can catch him asleep on the couch. That's when I kiss him on his forehead. Shh! Don't let the cat out of the bag. So far, he doesn't know.

Julianne keeps us on our toes, as she has from the day she was born, with high school life and all her commitments. I'm still homeschooling her. She does take some classes away from home too, lest you think I am some professor brain -- ha ha.Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03218962189691531211noreply@blogger.com0
